Night Working
Night Working
Background
Vac-Ex have worked with various sectors in the UK to complete excavation at night including; Aviation, Rail, Highways and Emergency works.
Job Description
Excavation at night requires extra planning due to working within traffic management, limited work possession, programme pressure, time bound, poor visibility.
Key Issues
Visibility levels are reduced which can result in slips, trips and falls. Adequate lighting is needed to illuminate the immediate work area.
Solution
Task lighting fitted to our units. Our new system of barrier lights is being trialled and we foresee this being fitted to all vehicles if the trial is successful. All vehicles are to have lighting checked and operators to be briefed prior to work starting. Night Working Toolbox Talk issued to plant operators.
Conclusion
To date numerous night contracts have been completed, all with no damage to services or accidents to our workforce with ZERO strikes. There were no reported incidents in respect of service strikes.
Over 1 Million working hours with zero strikes.
