Emergency Gas Replacement

Background

Vac-Ex works with its client to maintain and improve the supply of gas to millions of people living and working in the East of England, specialising in the delivery of vacuum excavation for the UK’s gas distribution network as our client are replacing old mains, laying new ones, installing new connections to houses and commercial premises and helping with emergency response services.

Job Description

The gas service pipe being replaced was a short side emergency replacement from the pavement outside the properties.

Key Issues

The property had a newly laid, and expensive driveway/pathway, which would be expensive and time consuming to reinstate. There were also drains running across the path of the pipe to be replaced, and power cables in close proximity. Soil was heavy clay.

Solution

Safe excavation by utilising our 26 tonne Vac-Ex vacuum excavation unit with a CPCS Accredited plant operator to excavate trial holes to the front where the service pipe entered the property.

Conclusion

The gas service pipe replacement was completed same day with minimal disruption. The work was undertaken under our standard health & safety procedures and no metal dig pipes were used on site. Works completed to programme with ZERO strikes. There were no reported incidents in respect of service strikes.
