Background

Vac-Ex were asked to provide Vacuum Excavation as part of the Edinburgh Tram System extension to New Haven. The works will add 4.6km of electrified double tram tracks as well as two new substations. This will give residents access to a high-capacity light rail which will sit alongside the existing bus service as well as improved cycling and walking infrastructure along the route.

Job Description

Excavate to prove ground through existing and unchartered services.

Key Issues

Unknown services, working in close proximity with the public. Careful excavating for any antiquities.

Solution

32t Mega Vac-Ex units used with plant operators who are Safe Urban Driving trained. Units working day shift/night shift as required.

Conclusion

Works completed to programme with ZERO strikes. There were no reported incidents in respect of service strikes.
