Vac-Ex have completed a vacuum excavation project in London underground, as part of National Grid’s seven year ‘London Power Tunnels’ project aimed at rewiring the capital. This major electricity substation is on the 275kV and 132kv underground lines networks.
Reduced level dig across the new building footprint to prove existing and unknown services.
Limited space and tight access on site therefore creating a difficult working footprint.
By rear steer with a 32t Mega vacuum excavation machine and “Mega Arm” extendable hydraulic power arm, we excavated from the furthest point first with our National Grid Person (Substation) Operator with 15 years’ experience.
Successfully achieved a reduced level dig and highlighted dozens of unknown services with ZERO strikes. There were no reported incidents in respect of service strikes.
